Public Music

Hong Kong is a conglomeration of AC-blasting indoor shopping malls. Because my impression of the place is unfortunately quite materialistic, it was a pleasant surprise to see a public music gathering of catchy latin music (the last time I walked by here there was a BMW concept car display) here at one of the largest malls, the International Finance Centre.

Even more of a shocker was to see how many people were watching despite having so many other things to do in the mall–like buying clothes, eating, and buying more clothes. Though perhaps I’m being too generous in that they were maybe judging the performers’ strange sense of fashion or preparing to devour them after the performance (more likely the former, most likely neither).

(Imagine the kids in the front doing contemporary dance and swaying side to side! Super cute.)
